Each of these beauty spots we have listed are in within walking distance!

  1. Cromwell's Bridge

For some of our guests, you may spot this on the way here! Oliver Cromwell and his men famously built this bridge in 1561/1562, and until recently, you could walk across the bridge. It has now been closed off, although no accidents have happened here. Find it standing parallel to Lower Hodder Bridge.

  2. Longridge Fell Viewpoint

"If the way was flat, it would be a half-hour walk" that's what we say to our guests wanting to witness a second sunset. A steady, steep incline, this is for the determined! Pass through varying states of a large plantation to come to a few scattered logs and the panoramic views of the Hodder Valley and the Bowland Fells beyond!

  3. Stonyhurst Bathing Huts

Hidden away in the woodlands below, lie the ruins of the school's bathing huts. Once a bobbin mill, the waterwheel platform still stands to this day. Follow the ruins downstream to a sandy beach below.

  4. Stonyhurst College

Built in the 14th century, this medieval manor house - turned school is still in operation today. The ponds are home to lots of birdlife both permanent and migratory. The museum is open to the public, but bookings are required.

  5. Blue Lagoon

Just cresting the junction at the top of the fell, lies a hidden gem. Once a quarry, now half-flooded and flourishing with life, the locals call this blue lagoon. Newts can be found in abundance, along with a lot more aquatic life. A small oasis on a large hill, heathers bloom and whinberries grow in their hundreds of thousands.
