The hidden magic of staying in a Shepherd's Hut

1. Built for Functionality - Shepherd's huts are small so they need a well thought out floor plan. No space is wasted! At Little Oakhurst, our shepherd's huts are homemade right here on the farm! We've incorporated easy cleaning with functional and often dual purpose items (like folding tables).

2. Rich History - Shepherd's huts were built centuries ago for British shepherds to use out in the fields and on the moors during lambing season - which depending on how big your flock is, could go on for weeks, sometimes months! Fitted with wheels and small windows, shepherd's huts were mobile over the land and they could keep an eye out on their sheep whilst keeping the warmth inside.

3. Ultimate Cosiness - A shepherd's hut is a snug layout. The amenities and utilities are inside and you'll be surprised with how warm you can get a shepherd's hut with little effort and energy. Insulated from the harsh British Winters with help from tried and tested cow mats, our guests return year after year to snuggle up and watch the snow falling across the landscape, it's a "you and me against the world" type of feeling!

4. Escaping from society and back to nature - Placed in quiet fields, woods or hillsides, a shepherd's hut opens private countryside up to people who want to see and appreciate it. We built our glamping site where it is because that section of our land, with all of its wildlife, views and peace, we love it - we want other people to see how beautiful our countryside really is. It's right next to ancient woodland (of which we have built our glampers a footpath to) and we are just uphill from a SSSI river section!

5. Unplugged Living - Everyone knows how bad a constant online presence has on our mental health. Our lack of TV's and WiFi force people to really get down to basics. You'll be surprised by how much fun you can have without background distractions, how much you can reconnect with your loved ones without external input. Cutting out the internet makes you more aware of what is really important in life, it clears the mind and allows you to focus on the here and now!
